RE: Account Number #

To Whom It May Concern:

I would like to provide the admissions committee with relevant context regarding my performance in the spring semester of 2012. I am requesting a GPA waiver for the program for which I am applying. It was during that time, that I suffered a severe bout of pneumonia. The illness kept me out of the classroom for the majority of the semester. While I was able to pass my classes, my grades were very low due to non-attendance.

A few years later, in 2014, I found myself the victim of two natural disasters here in Hawaii, including a devastating hurricane and a moderate volcanic eruption. These circumstances left me with a 2.0 GPA that does not reflect my understanding of the degree program that I pursued.

While I have failed in the past I am more than ready to get back into school and although my current GPA does not look good on paper, it is not a reflection of the strong grades I had prior to these situations.

Although I am disappointed in my current GPA, my life experiences have taught me a plethora of valuable lessons in starting over and never giving up. While I lost academic focus due to sickness and then natural disasters, I have learned how to maintain balance.

My initial grades in my first semesters of college are a better reflection of my potential to succeed in an academic setting. Becoming a student at MIT is my current goal and I’m sure that I can achieve my goals and benefit from your incredible academic program. Thank you for considering my request.

If you have any questions, I can be reached at 202-555-0111 or aoxojunna4289@yopmail.com.

Thank you for considering my request.

Sincerely,
